The Federal American with Disabilities Act was enacted in 1990 to eliminate discrimination against people with disabilities and to ensure that all Americans are treated equal. As a result of this legislation, all public places must provide unhindered safe access to its premises and basic accommodations for the disabled, similar to those provided to the general public. One of the guidelines that were developed specifies that a wall mounted light fixture located between 27” and 80” above the floor may not protrude more than 4” from the wall. This insures unobstructed safe passage to the disabled.
