BRAND NEW GU24 TECHNOLOGY
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the American Lighting Association (ALA) want to make it easier to use energy-efficient light fixtures. One of the obstacles faced by the industry was the problem presented by a hard-wired ballast. In the residential market, it is a difficult task to change a conventional fluorescent ballast, and a licensed electrician is usually required. In the commercial setting, ballast change-outs are a frequent nuisance, occupying valuable man-hours and adding excessive labor and expense.
The solution to this problem was the advent of the technology known as “GU-24.” In its simplified form, GU-24 simply refers to the connectors that mate the ballast to the fixture it is powering. Rather then using rivets or screws to mount the ballast to the fixture housing, and then wiring the ballast to individual lamp sockets, GU-24 technology uses a simple key-slot interface that any user can easily disconnect and re-connect using a twist of the wrist. This clever connection also carries electrical current through its prongs eliminating the need to handle wires. No special tools or skills are needed. It is believed that the GU-24 ballast will soon become the preferred choice of manufacturers and consumers throughout North America, effectively making all other power connections obsolete.
